The Mother of the Unseen (An Original MHM Archetype)

'The Mother of the Unseen' does not teach people that they matter. She regards them until they remember that they do.

She is an original MHM archetype inspired by the enduring symbolism of the Black Madonna and the human longing to be truly regarded.

She is not a replacement for one's mother, nor is she bound by any single culture, generation, or faith tradition. She represents mothering as a human capacity—the ability to receive another person with dignity, warmth, curiosity, and without judgment. In her presence, worth is not earned through achievement, appearance, agreement, or performance. It is simply recognized.

Created as both a work of art and an evolving public installation, the Mother of the Unseen invites people into an experience of unconditional positive regard. She does not offer answers or ask visitors to become someone new. Instead, she holds space for the quiet act of remembering what has always been true: every person deserves to be seen with unwavering regard.

As the central figure in an immersive installation, she holds an oversized gold baroque mirror—not to admire herself, but to hold it steady for others. The mirror becomes an invitation to encounter oneself with gentleness, honesty, and dignity. It is a reminder that sometimes we begin to recognize our own humanity when it is reflected back to us through the unwavering regard of another.

The Mother of the Unseen is both an artwork and an invitation. She exists for anyone who has ever longed to be received without condition and for every person willing to extend that same regard to someone else.
